Hit the Turtle to Return Home.
Earth in a far distant future. Sea levels have risen by several hundred feet. Croplands and cities are long covered by water and forgotten. Climate change has covered the Earth with deserts. Only a small strip of land on the east coast of what was once North America, and around the shore of what was once the Mediterranean, remain arable.
Humanity has split and mutated into different genetically diverse groups. Those that sort shelter from the climate's rising heat in deep caves have become shorter, and stockier. Those that sort shelter in alpine forests have become tall and slender. In the mountains, people have bulked up and dumbed down. On the coasts, people are much the same as they have ever been.
When pollinating insects were wiped out, nanobots were introduced to replace them. Like the people, nanobots have also evolved to cover the Earth. In invisible swarms of billions in every cubic inch of space, they are capable of changing the biological structure of any person almost instantly. Some people discovering this miracle have changed themselves into creatures of the sea, others into creatures of the air. Some have forgotten they were ever human at all.
The very few people that are aware of the nanobots have become techno wizards. But there are others striving to control what is left of humanity.
